Sct X3 Driver Download

I've had my X3 tuner for well over a year now and finally got a USB cable to connect it to my computer. I am trying to update the firmware, but my computer does not recognize the tuner when I plug it in. I keep getting an error saying 'USB Device Not Recognized'. I already downloaded the update software and live link, do I need to install drivers for the tuner? I've looked at SCT's website trying to find the driver to download but I can't seem to find it any where. I'm just using a generic USB cable that I bought from Target. Do I need an SCT specific USB cable?
